Important Deadlines: Key Dates in the UCAS Calendar for Scottish Students
1. September – UCAS Applications Open
- Start Your Application: UCAS applications typically open in early September. This is the time to begin filling out your details and starting your personal statement.
2. 15 October – Early Application Deadline
- For Certain Courses: The deadline for applications to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, and Veterinary Science courses, as well as all courses at Oxford and Cambridge.
3. 31 January – Main Application Deadline
- Most Courses: This is the main deadline for most undergraduate courses. Make sure your application is submitted by this date to be considered equally by universities.
4. February – Extra Applications Open
- If You Have No Offers: UCAS Extra allows students who have used all five choices but are not holding any offers to apply for another course.
5. March – Decisions Due from Universities
- Universities Respond: Universities will typically make their offers by late March or early April. You’ll need to respond to your offers by the deadline UCAS provides.
6. June – Final Application Deadline
- Last Chance: If you missed the January deadline, you can still apply by the end of June. However, these applications will be considered late, and places may be limited.
7. July – Clearing Opens
- For Late Applications and Unplaced Students: Clearing is available from July for students who didn’t receive any offers or didn’t meet the conditions of their offers.
8. August – SQA Results Day
- Confirming Places: Scottish students receive their SQA results in early August, and this is when UCAS will confirm your place if you meet the conditions of your offer. Clearing remains open for students who need it.
9. September – University Courses Begin
- Time to Start: Courses typically begin in September. By this time, all applications, decisions, and Clearing processes should be complete.
